Lyrical Dance Classes for Children and Teens
Phoenix Dance Academy offers lyrical dance classes in Pontefract for children and teens aged 6-17, helping students build technique, confidence, creativity and expression through movement.
Lyrical dance blends elements of ballet, contemporary and expressive dance movement, with a strong focus on musicality and emotion. Although it is often compared with contemporary dance, lyrical places a strong focus on storytelling, connection to music and expressive performance.
Classes are led by Miss Goodman, a DBS-certified instructor who helps each dancer progress at their own pace.
Ages 6–13: Beginner Lyrical Dance
Our beginner lyrical dance classes are ideal for children who are new to lyrical dance or still building their confidence.
Students learn simple choreography, clean technique, musical awareness and expressive movement in a fun and encouraging class environment. These sessions help young dancers understand rhythm, posture, control and beginner lyrical dance moves while developing confidence step by step.
This class is a great starting point for children who enjoy music, movement and storytelling through dance.
Ages 7–13: Advanced Lyrical Dance
For dancers ready to progress, our advanced lyrical dance classes introduce more detailed technique, choreography and performance skills.
Students work on flexibility, control, transitions, musicality and emotional expression, helping them bring more feeling and confidence into their movement. These classes are suited to young dancers with previous experience or those ready for a greater challenge.
Ages 14–17: Teen Lyrical Dance
Our teen lyrical dance classes help older students develop creativity, confidence and performance quality through expressive choreography.
Students focus on musical interpretation, improvisation, technique and personal style, learning how to connect movement with music and perform with emotion and control. As they progress, older students also work on emotional depth in lyrical dance, helping them grow as performers and develop their own expression.
